I think you simply unscrew the screws holding it on.

Its that easy, you don't have to move the gas tank to get to them. I ask because I am at school at the moment and I haven't been home to take a look.

You want to remove the lower front triangle (5 screws)

Then if you want to remove the left(as you sit on the bike) side panel its:
2-3 more screws on the underleft side
3 screws just above the left turn signal
3 screws for the left top black cockpit piece (remove)
under that is 1 bolt, also unclip the turn signal wires
1 by your left knee
1 under the shift lever
1, the notorious one at the rear most part

Then, these a grommeted hole that sits on a peg just where the small lower scoop is, you wiggle the left panel forward about 1/4 inch and pull gently, it should come off easily.

Then after that you wiggle the panel to the rear and down (about 1-2 inches)
The left panel is a slide under the top cowling type of setup. Then pull forward and off.

If something doesn't go easy, look for another screw or bolt !

OK, so how about the tail plastics? I did my rear brakes for the first time last night and thought I'd remove the tail plastic to make access to the fluid reservoir easier... nope. I got the 4 bolts under the seat (2 of which were for the front of the passenger handles), and thought the 2 screws at the rear center would release that small middle panel, but nope. Then I could find no way to remove the 2 bolts/screws for the rear of the passenger handles which, as best I could tell, were the only things holding the plastics on. I ended up just wrapping the plastic next to the reservoir with a shop towel and bending it out of the way but now it's irking me...

remove the center tail plastic cap that's two screws. Remove the4 allen bolts holding the handles in. Slide off the rear plastics the front portion has two tabs popped into the frame. they just pop out.
