2000 street fighter led lights

Postby MN0RMND » Wed Nov 12, 2014 2:16 pm

hey everyone new here, have a question regarding led lights prob been covered already, got the bike with rear leds, decided to street fighter it after reading an looking at some awosme builds on here an customstreetfighter site...anyways just want to clarify can i go either resistors or the relay setup? and have seen ppl saying use 25watt resistors, ok cool but at what ohms rating? and the lights workd fine until i decided to strip it an get front less, now they just stay on when i hit signal either way, is this cuz theres to much power? can i get away with just doing resistors in the front?.... also another question i haven't seen many do anything with the holes in the frame from the ram air? have you ? as soon as i can i will post some pics so far what i have done.. thanks

My answer might not be too much help. I have LEDs all around save for the H4 headlight. No resistors needed when doing LEDs all around. I only had the issues when I was using a combination stock and LED lighting. Can you tell us more about your set up. it will help us understand and find a path of resolution for ya.

well I'm not to sure, i got the bike not to long ago, had rear aftermarket leds signals, and stockish fronts with regular bulbs, they workd fine but then i decided to go naked!!! :reckon and i took the stock gauge cluster an all that off, an am plannin on getting a vapour, but anyways everything was or is stock as far as i know, so in all I'm not sure, could they've still run stock flasher, with the rear set of leds? or is it cuz i unplugged the whole stock gauge cluster? i was thinking that i needed resistors cuz there is to much power but u say u don't need them ???

I still have the stock flasher installed, and no resistors. Did you install with correct wiring when you when naked and put on all LEDs (minus headlight)?

This post might help you too. viewtopic.php?f=24&t=69144&p=800742&hilit=LED+indicator+fix#p800742 Use the search, there's a few threads where people have had similar issues and have used resistors and a new flasher relay to fix it.

Sorry for the delay. I'm trying to remember all of this from years ago, but I think you have the wiring all done correctly. Is that a clear alternatives taillight with integrated indicators?

I have LED signals. The rears have integrated resistors. The fronts do not. I installed an HD flasher unit and they worked fine. The only difference it that I had a four-way flash. I removed the turn signal indicator bulb and the four way flash was resolved. I wanted the indicator to work so I installed diodes from left and right to one side of the indicator and grounded the other side. Now everything works perfectly. There are plenty of previous topics regarding this. I hope this helps even a little. :dunno

So the front stay on all the time or only when you click on the signal? It could possibly be a running light instead of signal. As far as ohms, I would do 8 ohms. Sometimes in vehicles you don't need more that 2 resistors. One each side, left and right. But in others, you also need to slip the front and back. The way I had it was I did the running light with the signals and I added an amber led strip for my signal. Although I don't remember a resistor in line with the front. So the front may not need it. hey guys sry for the delay, zero no its stock rear light and just aftermarket turns, i got these resistors in today an was trying to wire them in but couldn't get it to work at all, there 6ohm 50 watt resistors, tried wiring both front an back , really chaps my assss, an when i put a stock bulb into the equation (front i did) it works fine with the rear leds, and if the front is disconnected they just stay on, same if the front is connected to the leds as well, I'm stumped

Sorry for the funky way I'm uploading the pics. Forum doesn't like the way my phone uploads pictures.

As for your problem. This haynes manual was very helpful since it has the wiring diagram. Might be hard to see but, the front and back turn signals on the right are on one circuit (as are the front and back on left side). The tail light and fender eliminator kit I got off of my 2004 gsxr 600 and made to fit (all LED). Originally, I ran into the same problems, the blinker lights would just stay lit when I hit the blinker. To fix this I just put one resistor in line with each blinker on the back end. Since each side are connected it eliminated the use of resistors for the front blinkers! As for the tail light right now I'm not running a resistor. there's no need to, the only problem with that is there is a minor amount of feed back so when I have a blinker going it SLIGHTLY dims the tail light with the brakes on or off. I'll try and get a couple more pics of how I weird the up the tail. Hope that helped your dilemma!

Brown wire is left side blinker (front and rear)

Image

Green wire is the ride side blinker for the front AND the rear

As for the tail light, I just mounted it right in the bolts that hold the tray up to the subframe. It fit a little tight so be careful not to Crack or break it. Also had to trim the lip of the tray so the tail light would fit.

As for the fender eliminator kit, I also had to do some hacking to the underside of the tray. Drilled two holes for the bolts to hold it on and one more so I could run the wires down to the blinkers.

Keep in mind that I had to bend my license plate up to the rear tire would clear it when the girlfriend rides with me. I love how it looks and turned out much better than I anticipated. Good luck!

P.S.- I would strongly consider buying the Haynes manual if you are a do it yourselfer like me. Definitely worth the $35.

Every time I tried to use the led blinkers without resistors they would stay lit with no flash. That was until I put the resistors in and it solved the problem entirely.
