And so it begins.. 03 Streetfighter

Postby ZackGS850 » Mon Feb 16, 2015 10:29 am

Hey all!
if you havent seen it, heres a link to my intro thread viewtopic.php?f=6&t=69405
Now then, heres my current To-Do List:
-Replace Snapped Right Handlebar (is coming in the mail as I type)
-Replace Headlight (links to good ones and mounting equipment?)
-Do something about the Ram Air system (Don't think keeping it is much of an option huh?)
-Move instrument cluster closer to handlebars
-Do something about all the wires (Kinda stumped on this one >.> )
-Possibly move Handlebars under the Triple Tree
-Add Chin Fairings
-Add Blue LED Accents to improve Looks and Visibility

I would say the only thing I feel intimidated about here is messing with and or removing the Ram Air system.
I would very much appreciate Help, Tips, Tricks, Advice, Insight etc from you guys that have done this before!
Thank you!
Zack

-Replace Headlight (links to good ones and mounting equipment?): I found good lights by picking a style I wanted and shopped by images using Google image search - that way you can see tons of styles that are similar or very different [/color]
-Do something about the Ram Air system (Don't think keeping it is much of an option huh?) Yep, gotta be done
-Move instrument cluster closer to handlebars Are you keeping the stocker, moving to a digital one, or going with a retro analog style?
-Do something about all the wires (Kinda stumped on this one >.> ) I re-routed mine inside the frame with minimal effort - it's not too hard. Post if you can't figure it our or if you're unsure if safe (or what have you
-Possibly move Handlebars under the Triple Tree some people here love that mod!
-Add Chin Fairings I as well want to do this, just haven't found the one I want just yet, that a money has been going to different places for now
-Add Blue LED Accents to improve Looks and Visibility That sounds cool! Someone here (I think, and can't remember who) integrated theirs into their turn signals. Worked great for visibility, as well as aesthetics. But check your local laws to see what is legal....

I would say the only thing I feel intimidated about here is messing with and or removing the Ram Air system. Take a look at this post. it will show you pretty much what to do > viewt ... 9&start=20, if you have questions, feel free to PM me or post in the fighters section, that's usually where I start when browsing on this site :)
I would very much appreciate Help, Tips, Tricks, Advice, Insight etc from you guys that have done this before! just post your questions/comments/ concerns, this forum is awesome and VERY helpful - people here are awesome!!!!

Most of all, have fun and do what you like, it's your bike. As long as you like it and it's safe and legal, do what you want to do. :rockon

Hey thanks for the reply Zero420!
I was probably going to stick with the stock cluster atleast for the time being.
The Ram Air link you posted is broken.
I'm going to go ahead and start working on rerouting wires and removing the Ram Air with what I know so far.

Making great progress so far!
Here she is thus far.

So far I've removed the ram air system and done the mod.
Mounted handlebars under triple tree.
Removed a considerable amount of crud >.<
Rerouted the cables.
Moved the guages right where I wanted em. (some call them zip ties, I call them custom hardware mounting apparatus)
-
I think I've found a good headlight, probably gonna order it.
Not really finding the lower cowl fairing like I want it (chin fairing) yet.
No LEDs yet.

Been a while since I updated this so here goes!
I have my headlight, though I'm going to grab a LED one soon, and the last of my LED turn signals are coming in the mail.
I shortied my race yoshi and it sounds amazing.
I added size 200 Keihin Jets, pondering what size pilots to go with since it runs best at 4 turns out on AF.
Fischy's Ram Air Mod (shortened velocity stacks).
Rebuilt front brakes.
Painted a bit.
New DID black and gold x link 530 and JT steel 14/49 coming in mail.
Flushed and replaced coolant.
Added Synthetic race oil.
Tuned suspension for my weight.
Synced carbs.
It pulls so strong now it's ridiculous, can't wait till the new sprockets and chains. It already pulls the front up so easy in 1st and 2nd.
I'm wondering if I should just get the Ivan kit for the needle or just buy some bigger pilots and stick with my stock needle.
Still need to add chin fairing and accent LEDs.

How did you shorten your pipe? I'm considering doing the same as I am converting my cat into a street fighter. Also any noticeable difference in sound after getting it shortened? Thanks in advanced

I removed the rivets from the header side of the slip on and then cut out a section and put it back with rivets. It's a 20 inch muffler and I cut out about 8 inches. The sound improved in my opinion.

Had my frame painted gloss black, the silver swingarm will be redone, and the front fender.
Got a LF R6 adaptor and R6 rear shock coming, and I desperately need to replace my fork seals when I get a chance.
