My first streetfighter build

Postby Dragonslayer06 » Thu Jan 14, 2016 7:32 pm

Hey guys I thought I would give you a look at what I'm riding. Bought my first Cat last summer from my Brother decided it would suit me better as a street fighter so here goes. This was what I ended up with after my first few months of modifying to get it running. It was basically a carb job. New battery and I slapped the cheapest stuff I could find on the front of it

But now I'm balls deep in redoing the front end with some dirty bars, new brake lines, new speedo, and headlight. I'll post new pics when it get it all set. Sorry about the upside down pic.

Got some pics of my dirty bars on the bike. Controls all seem to fit okay still gotta lengthen some wires and reroute. My brake lines are on the way from venhill. Then I have to worry about finding a nice headlight. Any suggestions? I really like the look of the mt03 light.

So my speedo came yesterday! I went with an eBay Koso knock off. I'm only a high school student and I couldn't afford a real one. Now I have to figure out how to wire it all in. Then I'll have to fabricate some sort of mounting bracket. After that it's just figuring out what headlight I want to run and I'm good to go!

So I got most of the wiring done. As far as I can tell I got all of it right except my starter button doesn't work now. Allow me to explain.. I got my wires all connected the first time. Then u tested it and most of the gauges were working except for the blinkers, but at that point the bike would still turn over. So I went back and check my wires found my mistake and tried again. All good. Then I put the bike in gear to make sure my Neutral indicator was functioning. Put it back in neutral, all good. Then I tried to start it and nothing. So I disconnected my wires and still nothing. Full charge. Any ideas? Maybe a fuse?

So I blew my ignition fuse, I don't understand why the new speedo would contribute to it, but I'm sure it wasn't a coincidence.

I'm sure you did, (or learned the hard way) to disconnect the ground terminal on your battery before doing any type of electrical work. It's best just to go purchase a cheap voltmeter rather than blow fuses or even worse. Of course, this should be obvious and the first step in problem solving.

Other than that, great progress. Once the Cat gets her grip on you, it's impossible to get away from her.

So it has been a long time since I updated or posted anything. Although I'm sure all of you were chomping at the bit with anticipation. But I do have a somewhat finished product on my cat so here goes. Image

Not usually a fan of the street fighter look. I am a fan of some of the cafe builds you see on the internet. Yours looks like a cafe bike with the short tail. I'll have to go back and read how you did that. Nice job.

Damn, I didn't even notice the tail until you said something. I did seem different, but I was focused on the front. I like it, what did you do and where's the ass shots

Well in all honesty the bike is a hack job. The picture makes it look good. And the tail was a failed attempt at an r6 tail swap but the frame "100% straight" subframe I bought was bent so I chopped the tail down. Now what your seeing is the result of bondo and fiberglass.

Hey man, who doesn't like a good hack job? I was in the same boat, chopped and welded my Tail straight. Hell, I'll one up you there, I thought the tanks had a stock plastic shell and decided to cut into with a cutting wheel! Looks great from my house!
